The Nature of Psychiatric Disease and Its Classification

A conference to be held at the Zebro Conference Hall located in the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Center for Genetics and Pharmacology (Buffalo, New York).

Sponsored by the Ontology Research Group of the University at Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

The conference will facilitate scholarly exchange and development concerning the nature and classification of psychiatric diseases, as well as their appropriate computational rendering and storage, especially in light of continual revisions to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the authoritative text in the psychiatric domain.

Provisional list of speakers with tentative titles:

  • Dominic P. Murphy, Senior Lecturer in the Unit for History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Sydney.

Presentation: "The Categorical and Dimensional Models of Mental Disease"

Presentation: "The Shape of the Mind: Making Sense of the Categorical and Dimensional Models"

Presentation: "The Myths and Methodology of the DSM"

Presentation: "Referent Tracking and the Models of the Mental"

Presentation: "An Ontology of the Mental"

Presentation: "Implementing an Ontology of the Mental by Computational Means"
